This month Bethlehem Harvest will be offering our two most popular bread classes. These are both “hands on” experiences where each student gets to handle the ingredients, work with the dough, shape the bread and eat the results! We have too much fun and we eat too much bread! What more could you ask for?
Basic Bread Baking – Saturday, August 27th, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
In this class students will work with fresh whole grains which they will mill into flour, mix into dough, knead, shape, and bake. Students will learn how to make loaves, dinner rolls, hamburger buns, and a specialty item like kolaches, or cinnamon rolls. Delicious!! This bread class is suitable for the beginning bread baker or the baker with some experience that wants to gain skill and confidence. Children are welcome in these classes if they are accompanied by an adult.
Sourdough Bread Baking -Â Monday, August 29th, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
This class is suitable for the student with at least some bread baking experience. Using an 1847 Sourdough starter that was carried across the Oregon Trail, students will learn about the unique benefits of sourdough bread baking. Because sourdough bread doesn’t happen very quickly, we will have bread in process at various stages, and students will knead and shape the final loaves. If all goes well, we will have bread to eat by the time the class is over…..but there are no timing guarantees with sourdough – that is lesson #1!
All bread baking classes are $10 per person with a $20 per family maximum. Each student will travel home with some bread to share with their family. 🙂
