Bethlehem Harvest is a family owned business based in Friendswood, Texas. Our goal is to provide top quality equipment and supplies for home bread baking.
Gail DeGray began her fascination with bread baking at age 12 and has been delighting family and friends with whole grain breads ever since. In addition to baking (and eating) bread, Gail enjoys sharing her skills with others. She teaches bread baking in her own kitchen and in several local venues.
In the late 1980’s, with a growing family, Gail made a dramatic change in her baking style and efficiency: she moved from hand kneading to machine mixing of her bread. The machine of choice at the time is still the best on the market today: the Bosch Universal Mixer. With the Bosch Mixer Gail can go from whole grains to fresh bread in just a little over an hour.
After recommending the Bosch to others for almost twenty years, Gail finally decided that she needed to be able to supply this machine to friends old and new. In addition, she is a supplier for the Nutrimill Grain mill, the successor to the grain mill that she bought almost twenty years ago. These two machines are at the heart of Bethlehem Harvest’s business. See the “Machines and Equipment” page for more information.
Gail found, however, that it was not enough to sell people machines. They also needed a reliable source of high quality grains and other baking supplies. Therefore, for local customers only, Bethlehem Harvest began stocking a number of popular high quality grains and baking products. See the See the Grains and Supplies page for more information and to make stocking requests.
Our name, Bethlehem Harvest, is based on the Biblical birthplace of Jesus Christ. The name Bethlehem literally means, “House of Bread”, and we’ve enjoyed the fact that our home has been a house of bread for many years. For our family the “harvest” of the grains God has provided comes when we enjoy the home baked goodness that continues to delight our senses after over 50 years of baking!! We invite you to enjoy the same delightful harvest in your own “house of bread!”
In addition to bread-making Gail enjoys pursuing a variety of other passions: caring for her husband, Bob, their nine children and fifteen grand children (so far!); serving the Lord Jesus Christ in local church ministry; and working with Reach Global Crisis Response, a ministry of the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA). Stories about Gail’s adventures with Crisis Response can be found at jesusourhelp.com
